No form is not the same as no income.
Educational notes for people who bet on sports or trade event contracts. This page does not tell you what to file, which method to use, or what you owe.
Source: Topic no. 419, Gambling income and losses. Last reviewed 11-Jun-2026 on the live IRS page cited for this draft.
Topic 419 states that gambling winnings are fully taxable, names sports betting among examples of gambling income, and says you must report all gambling winnings including winnings that are not reported on a Form W-2G.
Absence of a W-2G or a 1099 is an absence of that form. It is not, on this page, a determination that there was no income.
- An information return is not a full-year record.
- A book's year-end activity PDF is not always that information return.
This page does not tell you which form you should expect, and it does not compute what you owe.
